Full Story
Phillips has successfully generated CHF 115,500 for watchmaking education through its fourth charity auction held during Geneva Watch Days, with all funds directed to l’École d’Horlogerie de Genève.
The auction took place on September 3 and was organised by Phillips in collaboration with Bacs & Russo. It featured 16 exclusive lots donated by participating brands, which attracted enthusiastic bidders throughout the evening, led by auctioneer Aurel Bacs.
A highlight of the auction was a distinctive watch created by Konstantin Chaykin, which fetched CHF 24,000, making it the most valuable item of the event.
Established in 1824, l’École d’Horlogerie de Genève is the oldest watchmaking institution in Switzerland, having educated numerous skilled watchmakers over the years. Notable alumni include names such as Christophe Claret, Roger Dubuis, Franck Muller, and Rexhep Rexhepi.
The entirety of the CHF 115,500 raised will benefit the Pierre Amstutz Fund, a charitable organisation named in honour of the school’s former director. This fund is dedicated to providing financial assistance to apprentices in watchmaking and micromechanics who are experiencing monetary difficulties.
This latest auction has increased the cumulative total raised by the Geneva Watch Days x Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo charity auction to CHF 519,400 across its four iterations.
This initiative not only underscores the importance of charity auctions in fostering future watchmaking talent but also serves as a platform to unite independent watch brands, collectors, and industry stakeholders during Geneva Watch Days.
