The Goldsmiths’ Centre is set to feature the traditional Korean jewellery method known as Keum-boo this autumn. The event, taking place on 12 and 13 November in London, will be led by renowned jeweller and instructor Hendrike Barz-Meltzer.
This intensive course, designed for artisans with a solid foundation in jewellery making, will consist of 12 hours of hands-on training, with a cap of ten participants to ensure personalised attention. Attendees will acquire skills in silver preparation, the application of fine gold foil, and advanced techniques for finishing and surface design. Additionally, the course will cover micro-riveting, a cold connection method applicable to Keum-boo artworks.
According to the Goldsmiths’ Centre, the masterclass aims to equip jewellers with the essential skills to integrate Keum-boo into both bespoke and larger-scale production pieces. The focus on this technique is particularly timely, as many jewellers are navigating the challenges posed by rising precious metal prices, making cost-effective gold utilisation increasingly pertinent for independent creators.
