Full Story

Nomos Glashütte has unveiled its latest timepieces at the sixth annual Nomos Forum held at its headquarters in Glashütte, Germany. The event traditionally introduces new releases, with this year featuring the Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer ‘Night Navigation’ limited editions.

The new models are positioned as a departure from last year’s Tangente 2date launch, which generated considerable debate due to its design, highlighting two date windows. In contrast, the latest releases forgo this feature entirely, instead embracing the popular Club Sport Worldtimer silhouette, which is now available in three striking colour variants.

These colour schemes—Grid, Trace, and Vector—draw inspiration from elements typically found in cockpit displays and nocturnal cityscapes viewed from aircraft. Each model showcases high-contrast features on a sunray-brushed black galvanized dial. Grid is adorned with orange accents and a brown city ring accompanied by ecru text. Trace is highlighted with turquoise detailing, while Vector incorporates light yellow and ecru accents against an olive city ring. All models display bright orange highlights on the 24-hour home time subdial and track relative time across various cities, accommodating for daylight saving adjustments.

Despite the bold dials, the watch retains the established characteristics of the Club Sport Worldtimer introduced earlier this year. The 40mm stainless steel case features a revised, shorter lug design and maintains a sleek profile at 9.9mm in height. A red ring on the screw-down crown serves as a reminder to ensure the watch is sealed for its rated water resistance of 100 metres.

At the heart of these timepieces is the new self-winding DUW 3202 movement, equipped with Nomos’s proprietary Swing System escapement, offering a power reserve of 42 hours. Each of the three designs—Grid, Trace, and Vector—is limited to just 175 pieces, retailing at $5,190 each.

The rapid release of these limited-edition models has drawn attention, especially as they arrive just six months after the initial Club Sport Worldtimers debuted. Market response suggests that demand exceeded expectations for the previous colourways, leading to their swift sell-out despite their higher price point relative to other Nomos offerings.

The decision to introduce a new trio so soon may be a strategy to leverage this existing enthusiasm. The contrasting designs, while distinct, showcase a cohesive visual impact in person that may not have been fully captured in initial promotional images. Interestingly, the anti-reflective coating on the dials can create a blue hue under certain lighting conditions, adding to the allure of the pieces.

According to personal preferences, the Vector stands out for its understated charm, with its greenish-yellow highlights appearing more subtle compared to the bolder colours of Grid and Trace. The tactile experience of the worldtime pusher has also been noted as a highlight in the design.

While the Worldtimer’s dial design somewhat diverges from the traditional Bauhaus principles that have defined Nomos, the bold aesthetics of the Night Navigation series signal a potential shift in the brand’s design philosophy. This approach is likely to attract a different audience, prompting speculation about the future creative directions Nomos might pursue as it continues to evolve.
