Lukfook Jewellery has opened its first store in the UK, marking its entry into the market with a new shop at London’s Westfield Stratford City.
The opening extends the retail network of parent company Luk Fook Holdings to 14 countries and regions.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony drew officials from both the UK retail sector and Hong Kong’s trade promotion body.
Joey Ko, director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) for the UK, Nordics and Ireland, attended alongside Amy Lowe, deputy general manager of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Group, which owns and operates the shopping centre, and Tony Hurley, the centre’s operations and estate manager.
Lukfook was represented by several members of its senior leadership, including executive director and chief operating officer Shirley Wong Hau Yeung, senior business director Billy Cheung Cheuk Kin, property director Darwin Cheung Chi Keung, UK district manager Ricky Yiu, and Evana Wong, head of the new store.
Wong Wai Sheung, chairman and CEO of Lukfook Group, said the UK opening is part of a three-year strategy, launched last year, to expand into three new overseas markets.
“The group set a new three-year strategic plan last year with the goal of expanding into three new overseas markets,” he said.
“As a core hub in Europe, the United Kingdom gathers international tourists and local consumers with high purchasing power, offering enormous market potential that serves as a key driver to realise this plan.
“Looking ahead, the group will continue to explore potential European markets, refine its regional retail network, capitalise on market opportunities, and further implement its corporate vision of ‘Brand of Hong Kong, Sparkling the World’.”
The new store sits inside Westfield Stratford City, a shopping and entertainment complex in East London known for drawing large numbers of shoppers and tourists.
Lukfook said it is counting on the location’s foot traffic to build awareness of its jewellery among UK and international consumers.
Luk Fook Holdings, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 1997, traces its roots to 1991, when it opened its first store in North Point, Hong Kong.
The company designs, sources, wholesales and retails gold, platinum and gem-set jewellery through several brands, including Lukfook Jewellery, 3DG Jewellery, Heirloom Fortune, Lukfook Joaillerie, Goldstyle and Love LUKFOOK JEWELLERY. Those brands together operate roughly 2,900 points of sale worldwide.
