The 56th edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show has commenced in Sharjah, showcasing a stunning array of exhibits, with the spotlight shining on the remarkable “Dubai Dress.” This extraordinary gown, weighing 10.0812 kilograms, is crafted entirely from 21-karat gold and has earned the title of the heaviest and most valuable gold dress in the world from Guinness World Records, carrying a staggering price tag of AED 4.6 million.

Produced by Al Romaizan Gold and Jewellery, the dress features an intricate four-part design that includes a crown weighing 398 grams, a necklace at 8,810.60 grams, earrings of 134.1 grams, and a waist ornament weighing 738.5 grams. Al Romaizan is known for its show-stopping pieces, having previously unveiled a gold bicycle at past exhibitions.

Running for five days at the Expo Centre Sharjah, this exhibition is the largest of its kind in the region. Organised by Expo Sharjah in collaboration with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the event attracts over 500 exhibitors and more than 1,800 professionals from the jewellery and manufacturing sectors worldwide. Notably, 68% of the exhibitors have travelled from outside the UAE, adding an international dimension to this year’s event.

Participants this year include prestigious jewellers from countries such as Italy, India, Türkiye, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. Additionally, first-time exhibitors from Australia, Myanmar, and Pakistan bring a fresh perspective to the show. The regional representation is also prominent, with exhibitors from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Lebanon, solidifying the event’s reputation as a central hub in the gold and jewellery industry.

The exhibition was officially opened by H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI and Expo Centre Sharjah, alongside H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, and other dignitaries, including officials and representatives from the jewellery sector. Attendees explored the extensive 30,000 square metre exhibition space, highlighting the latest offerings from leading sponsors such as Al Romaizan Gold and Jewellery and Salem Al Shueibi Jewellery.

The “Emirati Goldsmiths” platform is a notable part of this year’s exhibition, featuring local designers who present collections that merge traditional artistry with contemporary styles.

In addition to the stunning displays, the event offers a variety of workshops, live demonstrations, and engaging competitions designed to inform visitors about global jewellery trends and innovative crafting techniques. Exciting prize draws, including an Audi A3 and luxurious gold and diamond sets, will be held throughout the event, with winners announced at its conclusion.

The exhibition is open to the public at no charge, with operating hours from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, and from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Friday, providing jewellery enthusiasts from across the region an opportunity to enjoy the offerings.
