Cartier, a key brand under Richemont, has announced a significant price increase for its products in the United States, effective today. The adjustment sees prices rising by approximately 10%.
Similarly, sources have indicated that the Swatch Group plans to implement a price hike on October 1. Meanwhile, Patek Philippe has already raised its recommended retail prices by 15% and reduced the margins for its authorised dealers.
As of now, neither Rolex nor Audemars Piguet have issued any statements regarding the recent imposition of a 29% import tariff that came into effect on August 8. This tariff follows an earlier increase of 10% on Swiss watches in April, culminating in an overall tariff rate approaching 41% for goods imported into the United States.
The impact of these tariffs has led manufacturers to distribute the financial burden among various stakeholders. Consumers are facing higher prices, authorised dealers are encountering decreased margins, and importers, primarily brand offices based in the US, are bearing additional costs, which may ultimately affect profits at their Swiss parent companies.
Recent price lists reviewed by industry publication WatchPro reveal that the price of a popular Cartier Santos model in steel and gold will rise from $8,000 to $8,800, excluding sales tax. Similarly, a gold and steel Panthere will see its price increase from $10,000 to $11,000.
However, not all Cartier models are affected equally; for instance, a medium Santos de Cartier in steel and yellow gold set on a calf leather strap is experiencing a smaller increase of just 5%, moving from $11,200 to $11,750.
WatchPro continues to monitor the price adjustments of various leading watch brands in the US market, particularly in light of the recent tariff hikes.
Interestingly, IWC, another brand under the Richemont umbrella, has not raised its prices as of this morning, nor have the prices for Breitling, Tissot, Rolex, Omega, and Audemars Piguet changed.
