The Saudi Arabia Jewellery Exhibition (SAJEX) 2025 was officially launched in Jeddah by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), signifying a pivotal moment in the enhancement of trade ties between India and Saudi Arabia. Scheduled to run from September 11 to 13 at the Jeddah Superdome, this three-day business-to-business event will feature over 200 exhibitors occupying 250 booths.

SAJEX 2025 aims to connect Indian artistry with the rapidly expanding jewellery market in Saudi Arabia, which is anticipated to reach a value of $8.3 billion by the year 2030. The exhibition has brought together an extensive array of over 200 jewellery makers from India and around the globe, in response to the surging demand within the Kingdom.

According to GJEPC, gems and jewellery play a significant role in the trade relationship, contributing roughly $890 million to the overall $52.8 billion in bilateral trade projected for FY25. Krith Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC, noted the strong synergies that exist between the two countries, stating, “Saudi Arabia is a natural partner for India’s jewellery industry. The Kingdom’s $4.5 billion jewellery market is projected to grow to $8.3 billion by 2030, fuelled by strong GDP growth of $1.1 trillion, high per capita jewellery consumption of $320 annually, and a young, fashion-forward consumer base.”

Bhansali underscored India’s formidable position in the global gem and jewellery market, highlighting its $165 billion sector, which includes an $85 billion retail segment, $30 billion in exports, and $50 billion related to bullion. “No other country matches the diversity of our ecosystem—from diamonds and gold to silver, coloured gemstones and lab-grown diamonds. If it can’t be made anywhere, it can be made in India,” he asserted.

Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, Suhel Ajaz Khan, remarked that as the global political landscape shifts, SAJEX offers fresh opportunities for economic collaboration between these historically strong trade partners. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia accounts for around half of the Gulf’s gems and jewellery consumption, while India stands as one of the largest exporters in this field. “Currently, India’s share in Saudi’s gems and jewellery market is modest, indicating significant growth potential. Also, Jeddah is a hub for gems and jewellery in the Gulf region,” Khan noted.

In addition, he stated that the future focus should include capitalizing on mutual strengths across various sectors, especially in gems and jewellery, where India’s robust export capacity aligns well with Saudi Arabia’s vast consumer market, promising fruitful trade outcomes.

Further echoing these views, Siddharth Mahajan, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, emphasized India’s unmatched scale, quality, and innovation within the sector. He pointed out that India leads as the world’s largest exporter of cut and polished diamonds, ranks second in silver jewellery exports and is within the top three for gold jewellery exports. Together, Mahajan proclaimed, India and Saudi Arabia are poised to enter a new era of bilateral trade, cultural interchange, and global branding.

Khalid A. Al-Sheddi from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment highlighted the Kingdom’s burgeoning market, stating it “creates exceptional opportunities for partnership with India’s global leadership in gems and jewellery.”

The prestigious event will feature a variety of exhibits including diamond and coloured gemstone jewellery, 18K-22K gold items, and lab-grown diamonds, alongside a World Jewellery Investment Forum in collaboration with the Kingdom’s Ministry of Investment.

Participating exhibitors regard the fair as an essential venue for discovering synergies, exchanging knowledge, and forming enduring partnerships. Notable Indian manufacturers such as Hasmukh Parekh Jewellers, Modern Impex, ZAR Jewels Pvt. Ltd, JKS Jewels Pvt. Ltd, Sky Gold & Diamonds Limited, and Senco Gold Limited are joined by companies from the UAE, Turkey, Hong Kong, and Lebanon. The exhibition anticipates drawing over 2,000 business attendees, including 400 leading jewellers.

Among the dignitaries present were Fahad Al Jubairy, Assistant Deputy Minister for Industrial Investment at the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (Government of Saudi Arabia); Princess Nourah Al-Faisal, designer and industry figure; and Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri, Consul General of India in Jeddah.
