The Saudi Arabia Jewellery Exhibition (SAJEX) 2025 was officially launched on Thursday in Jeddah by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), marking a pivotal development in the enhancement of trade relations between India and Saudi Arabia. The event, running from 11 to 13 September at the Jeddah Superdome, features over 200 exhibitors spread across 250 booths.

SAJEX 2025 seeks to bridge Indian craftsmanship with Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning demand for jewellery, estimated to reach $8.3 billion by 2030. The fair has attracted a diverse array of global jewellers, showcasing their products to meet the rising consumer expectations in the Kingdom.

According to GJEPC, trade in gems and jewellery contributes approximately $890 million to the overall $52.8 billion trade between India and Saudi Arabia for the fiscal year 2025. Krith Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC, emphasized the mutual benefits of this collaboration, stating, “Saudi Arabia is a natural partner for India’s jewellery industry.” He described the projected growth of the Kingdom’s jewellery market, which is expected to expand from $4.5 billion to $8.3 billion by 2030, highlighting the factors driving this increase including robust GDP growth, high jewellery consumption per capita, and a youthful, trend-conscious customer base.

Bhansali also detailed India’s remarkable stature in the global gem and jewellery sector, noting that it comprises an $85 billion retail market, $30 billion in exports, and $50 billion in bullion trade, all contributing to India’s total market of $165 billion. “No other country matches the diversity of our ecosystem—from diamonds and gold to silver, coloured gemstones and lab-grown diamonds. If it can’t be made anywhere, it can be made in India,” he added.

Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, remarked on the significance of SAJEX in fostering economic collaboration between the two countries. He highlighted that Saudi Arabia accounts for half of the Gulf region’s gems and jewellery consumption, while India stands as one of the foremost exporters in this sector. “Currently, India’s share in Saudi’s gems and jewellery market is modest, indicating significant growth potential. With Jeddah being a key hub for this industry, there is ample opportunity for a strong economic partnership,” he noted.

In the context of shifting global trade dynamics, he mentioned that future strategies should leverage the complementary strengths of both nations, particularly in gems and jewellery, enhancing export potential alongside Saudi Arabia’s expansive consumer market.

Siddharth Mahajan, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, reinforced this sentiment, pointing out that India is the largest exporter of cut and polished diamonds and a leading exporter of silver and gold jewellery. “Together, India and Saudi Arabia can shape a new era of bilateral trade, cultural collaboration, and global brand building,” he remarked.

A representative from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment, Khalid A. Al-Sheddi, underscored the exceptional partnership opportunities presented by the Kingdom’s rapidly expanding jewellery market.

The exhibition will feature a variety of offerings, including diamond and coloured gemstone creations, 18K-22K gold jewellery, and lab-grown diamonds, alongside a World Jewellery Investment Forum in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment.

Participating exhibitors express optimism that the event will provide an invaluable platform for forging synergies, sharing expertise, and establishing enduring partnerships. Notable Indian manufacturers such as Hasmukh Parekh Jewellers and Senco Gold Limited will be joined by international firms from the UAE, Turkey, Hong Kong, and Lebanon. The exhibition is anticipated to attract over 2,000 business visitors, including 400 leading jewellers.

Key attendees at the inauguration included Fahad Al Jubairy, Assistant Deputy Minister for Industrial Investment at the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources; Princess Nourah Al-Faisal, a prominent designer and industry figure; and Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri, the Consul General of India in Jeddah.
