A new limited edition watch has been unveiled, representing a contemporary interpretation of the original reference 87013, enhanced through a collaboration with Hodinkee. Guillaume Laidet, Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer of the recently revitalised Nivada Grenchen, highlighted the influence of a 1960s model in the reintroduction of the Antarctic GMT series. The standard model made its debut in 2024, but this special edition adds unique elements.
Measuring 36mm in diameter and 40mm lug-to-lug, the previous models featuring black and tropical dials have gained popularity among collectors. This limited run, consisting of 225 pieces, draws on themes from the “Grey Glow” exclusives created with Hodinkee, while enhancing the design for a more durable, versatile GMT watch.
Retaining a trusted automatic and self-winding SOPROD C125 movement, the watch offers a power reserve of 42 hours and operates at a frequency of 4Hz. It includes a 24-hour rotating inner bezel, which can be adjusted through a crown positioned at 2 o’clock. An additional crown at 4 o’clock allows for independent adjustments of the GMT hand and date in its first position, while the second position adjusts the standard 12-hour time.
Notably, the crystal has been upgraded to sapphire glass, effectively increasing the watch’s water resistance from 50 to 100 meters. This enhancement is exclusive to the limited edition model and reflects the Antarctic’s legacy of resilience.
