Texas has swiftly emerged as a key battleground in the luxury watch sector, driven by a robust economic climate that shows little sign of deceleration. The state’s economy was valued at $2.9 trillion in 2025, reflecting a real growth rate of 2.5%, outpacing national averages. For comparison, the UK has a nominal GDP of approximately $3.9 trillion but is home to a population nearly double that of Texas.

This economic landscape, marked by low taxes and minimal regulation, has attracted many corporations out of traditionally Democrat-leaning states like California and New York. From 2015 to 2024, Texas welcomed 314 companies relocating their headquarters, with Austin and Houston being prominent destinations for 97 and 41 firms respectively.

Industries in Houston, particularly those focused on energy, healthcare, and finance, continue to thrive, while Austin solidifies its status as a burgeoning technology hub, welcoming major players like Tesla and Oracle. This influx of wealth has caught the attention of luxury watch retailers.

In a significant move, the Watches of Switzerland Group acquired four showrooms in Texas from Deutsch & Deutsch earlier this year. Korman unveiled a stunning Rolex-centric showroom in Austin, while Omega has launched its own boutique in the same area. In Dallas, Eiseman Jewels revitalised its flagship store in NorthPark Center, and de Boulle is currently enhancing its location with a dedicated space for Patek Philippe and premium hospitality services.

Amidst this wave of investment, family-run Zadok Jewelers is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a major expansion, including the addition of a high-end watchmaking facility in Houston and the launch of an 11,000-square-foot showroom in Austin, which has already exceeded expectations.

Jonathan Zadok, of Zadok Jewelers, shared insights on Texas’s appeal as a luxury watch market and observed shifts in consumer behaviour—particularly among younger buyers. He emphasised the importance of investing in the servicing of pre-owned watches and maintaining relationships with customers as the economy evolves.

Reflecting on their annual Watchtoberfest event, which drew over 1,300 participants, Jonathan noted that the atmosphere was vibrant, featuring fast cars, live music, and unique watch displays from various brands. Though the event was limited to Houston this year, there are plans to incorporate Austin in future iterations.

The discussion also delved into the evolving trends within the Swiss watch industry. Jonathan noted that while certain high-end watches are commanding premium prices, a distinct split is emerging in consumer spending habits. He remarked, “We’re seeing momentum growing faster at the higher end of the market,” stressing that brands successfully connecting with buyers will fare better.

Bridal jewellery remains a cornerstone of Zadok Jewelers’ strategy. Jonathan highlighted that for many young consumers, purchasing engagement rings represents their initial foray into luxury items. Establishing connections through these early purchases is crucial for nurturing long-term customer loyalty.

He further pointed out how perceptions of watches have shifted among younger generations. Prior to the popularity of smartwatches, interest in traditional timepieces had diminished. However, the emergence of devices like the Apple Watch has rekindled an appreciation for wristwatches, prompting a resurgence in demand.

Social media has played a key role in this revival, with brands leveraging these platforms to engage potential new customers. Particularly, younger men and women are increasingly embracing watch collecting, with brands offering accessible luxury options gaining traction.

Among the brands bolstering Zadok’s appeal, Cartier stands out, capturing a diverse audience, including a growing number of female consumers. Jonathan attributed this trend partly to effective marketing and noteworthy designs that resonate well with modern buyers.

He also discussed the blending of jewellery and watch retailing, suggesting that a more integrated approach could benefit the customer experience. The successful collaboration between luxury brands and multibrand environments enhances discovery for buyers who may be seeking more than just one specific brand.

Despite the rise of standalone boutiques, Jonathan believes multibrand stores offer unique advantages. Such environments allow customers to engage with a variety of offerings, increasing the likelihood of discovering new favourites—

an aspect that is particularly essential in attracting a diverse clientele.

Looking ahead, Zadok Jewelers is making substantial investments in a state-of-the-art watchmaking facility in Houston, aimed at enhancing servicing capabilities, particularly as the pre-owned market continues to expand. Jonathan is resolute about his commitment to improving customer experience, stating, “The reality is that no matter how good a customer is today, they won’t necessarily remain a customer forever.”

Zadok’s dedication to service reflects a broader industry need. Jonathan noted, “If you tell a customer their watch will take four weeks to service and you return it in two, you’re a hero.” This focus on managing expectations underlines the importance of customer satisfaction for sustaining growth.

Furthermore, Zadok is set to introduce Rolex Certified Pre-Owned watches, allowing consumers greater peace of mind when purchasing pre-owned models, thus meeting significant market demand. Jonathan is optimistic about the future of his business amid a dynamic retail landscape, asserting that long-term commitment to quality service and customer relationships is essential for ongoing success.

As luxury watch retailers continue to innovate in Texas, the state’s economic vibrancy and investment potential remain paramount to their expansion and success.
