Telling your sustainability story accurately with Credere Consultancy

Telling your sustainability story accurately with Credere Consultancy

How will Credere Consultancy offer support brands in navigating ethics, transparency and environmental performance?

Credere Consultancy exists to help jewellery businesses understand their impacts across sourcing, manufacturing and retail.

I work with businesses to identify the areas of highest risk and opportunity, and translate that insight into cost-effective, practical actions.

For example, strengthening supply chains, improving environmental performance, and ensuring that social responsibility is addressed not just in policies, but in the day to day running of a business.

I also help brands communicate this work with integrity and confidence. Consumers are sceptical of vague sustainability messaging.

Credere Consultancy enables brands to tell their story accurately and backed by evidence. This focused consultancy offer draws on over ten years of industry learning, including insights from our recent poll of 30 small jewellery brands, which identified strategy, sourcing and communications as the areas jewellers felt most in need of support.

How will you help brands achieve B Corp, Positive Luxury and RJC standards?

Certification can be a powerful tool for improvement, but it can also feel daunting, particularly for smaller businesses. Credere Consultancy supports jewellery brands to best understand which scheme is the right fit for them, assess where improvements need to be made, as well as how to meet the requirements of the differing standards.

I’ve worked with numerous brands over the years to interpret the requirements of B Corp, Positive Luxury and the Responsible Jewellery Council Standards in a way that is relevant to their size, structure and supply chain.

Rather than a box ticking exercise, I see these standards as a way of strengthening governance and meaningfully improving social and environmental impact.
I believe that it is so important to equip jewellery brands with the systems and knowledge needed to stand up to future scrutiny and support resilience as industry expectations rise and regulations tighten.

What are the advantages of using Credere Consultancy, rather than utilising an internal sustainability lead?

For many jewellery businesses, particularly independents and small brands, employing a sustainability specialist is neither practical nor cost effective.
Credere offers access to specialist expertise without the overheads.

One of the reasons I love my role is the to be a team member of lots of different brands, providing flexible support as and when needed.

There is also a benefit to having an objective external consultant on hand. I can challenge assumptions and identify blind spots that might otherwise be overlooked.

The businesses I work with care deeply about doing the right thing but feel overwhelmed by complexity, and have a fear of “getting it wrong”.

Credere helps put in place clear, achievable steps, allowing businesses to focus on their priorities – creativity, craftsmanship and growth – while knowing their impact is being addressed responsibly.

Will your services mainly cater to independent brands? Or is it a mix of bigger and smaller brands?

I work with a wide range of businesses, from designer-makers to established brands and suppliers. However, I’ve always wanted to ensure that access to expert support is not confined to large corporations.

Independent jewellery businesses and designer makers often have a genuine desire to operate responsibly, but limited resources.

These brands play a vital role in shaping a more ethical industry. I’ve been a member of the Fair Luxury team for many years.

This group of designer-makers and small businesses has been leading the ‘responsible jewellery’ conversation in the UK for over a decade. They are a great illustration of the collective power of small businesses.

Responsible business is no longer a ‘nice to have’ for jewellery brands. Regulation, retailer requirements and consumer awareness mean that transparency, environmental performance and social impact are essential to commercial success. Brands that invest in responsible practices are better positioned to build trust and future proof their business.

Waugh also runs her own brand, Considered Jewellery, which is an example of a company with a completely transparent supply chain. Each product is mapped back to the source of the materials and the supply chain is detailed on its website.
