Christie’s has announced the appointment of Tom Heap as a senior specialist within its London branch dedicated to watches. This strategic move is part of the auction house’s efforts to bolster its expertise in high-end timepieces and to reinforce London’s significance in its global watch sales framework, coinciding with Christie’s 260th anniversary.
Heap will collaborate with the company’s international team, which includes locations in Geneva, Hong Kong, and New York. His role will support consignment activities and play an integral part in the global auction schedule.
The auction house highlighted that Heap’s hiring is indicative of the increasing interest in vintage and contemporary watches, as the demand from collectors continues to rise.
Before joining Christie’s, Heap worked at Sotheby’s for nearly five years, where he held the position of head of department, leading specialised watch auctions and playing a key role in significant international sales.
His passion for horology was ignited when he inherited a 1970s Cartier Tank from his godfather, initiating a lifelong interest in collecting timepieces.
In his new position, Heap will be tasked with enhancing connections with collectors and procuring significant consignments for Christie’s watch auctions globally.
Remi Guillemin, who leads the watches division for Europe and the Americas at Christie’s, expressed his enthusiasm about Heap’s arrival, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Tom Heap to the Christie’s international Watches team. His expertise across both vintage and contemporary watches and his strong client relationships make him an excellent addition to our global team. London remains an important centre within our global Watches business, and Tom’s appointment further enhances our ability to serve collectors worldwide.”
