Full Story
Piaget has unveiled two striking new variations of its iconic Limelight Gala watch, showcasing the opulent design principles reminiscent of the glamorous 1970s. These additions reflect the brand’s commitment to artisanal craftsmanship, presenting fresh colour schemes while honouring the hallmark elements of the beloved timepiece.
Since its introduction in 1973, the Limelight Gala has become synonymous with Piaget’s luxurious aesthetic. Originally designed by Jean-Claude Gueit, the watch featured a unique oval shape complemented by diamond-set lugs that appeared to flow elegantly across the dial and bracelet, diverging from the more utilitarian designs prevalent at the time.
The latest models maintain this refined silhouette but enhance it with an emphasis on gold engraving and vibrant hues.
The first edition showcases a striking orange Grand Feu enamel dial, intricately crafted to mimic the texture of snake skin, a motif first introduced with the 2019 Extremely Lady model. Unlike its predecessor, which heavily favoured diamonds for visual impact, this new design creates depth and texture with careful engraving. Surrounding the case, diamonds seamlessly transition into spessartite garnets, evoking the warm colours of a sunset.
The second iteration takes inspiration from Piaget’s legacy, reviving the Decor Palace engraving technique that dates back to the 1960s. Employed on earlier versions of the Limelight Gala, this method involves meticulously carving lines into gold by hand with a burin. Due to the artisanal nature of this process, each watch boasts a unique character, shaped by the artisan’s individual touch.
This 2026 model features a rose gold case and bracelet alongside a gradient of white and cognac diamonds, offering a more traditional aesthetic in contrast to the bold enamel design.
Both watches preserve the essence of the original Limelight Gala through their supple integrated bracelets, designed to fit comfortably against the wrist. Crafted in rose gold, they house the automatic calibre 501P1, providing a power reserve of 40 hours and measuring 32mm in diameter.
