Full Story

Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, the great-great-great-grandson of Edwin Fear—the founder of Fears Watch Co.—has channelled his family legacy into a new limited-edition watch, the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour ‘Celestial’. This release marks a significant milestone, celebrating 180 years of Fears and a decade since its modern resurgence.

The original Brunswick Jump Hour reintroduced the charming jumping hour complication to the brand’s distinctive cushion-shaped case, featuring a minimalist dial with classic numerals. The latest iteration, the ‘Celestial’, retains the 40.5mm stainless steel case and the same jump hour mechanism but presents a striking design inspired by the night sky.

The watch features a captivating dual-material dial, highlighted by a deep blue aventurine glass outer ring that creates a starry effect, juxtaposed with a central disc crafted from lustrous white mother-of-pearl, symbolising the moon. This combination of materials marks their debut on a Fears Jump Hour timepiece.

The time is indicated via an aperture at 12 o’clock, featuring newly developed Breguet-style numerals which have been designed in-house. Encircling the dial is a silver minute track arranged radially, while a singular rhodium-plated hand denotes the minutes.

Launched as a highlight for the upcoming Inhorgenta Munich trade fair, scheduled for 20-23 February, this timepiece not only represents Fears’ expansion in the European market but also underscores the collective progress of the British watchmaking industry. Powered by the Christopher Ward JJ01 jumping hour module and built on a Sellita SW200 automatic movement, the watch boasts a water resistance of up to 100 metres. It is presented with either a blue Barenia leather strap or an optional steel bracelet.

Prices are set at £4,350 for the strap and £4,550 for the bracelet, available on fearswatches.com.
