HONG KONG — A significant partnership was celebrated as the ASEAN Gems & Jewellery Trade Association (AGJA) and the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) came together during the HKJJA’s 60th anniversary, hosting the 2025 AGJA Conference at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This event saw a robust attendance from global delegates, industry leaders, and innovators, highlighting the increasing prominence of ASEAN in the global jewellery landscape.

The conference marked the enduring collaboration between AGJA and HKJJA, cultivated through years of joint efforts and a shared vision for the future. With the Diamond Jubilee of HKJJA setting a celebratory tone, both organizations reiterated their dedication to fostering mutual growth. The partnership underscores the complementary roles of Hong Kong as a central trading hub and the rapidly developing markets within ASEAN, generating promising prospects for businesses, suppliers, and designers.

Opening the conference, remarks were made by notable figures including Mr. Victor Chan, Chairman of HKJJA; Mr. Benedict Sin, President & Director of HKJJA; and Mr. Suttipong Damrongsakul, President of AGJA, which established an engaging atmosphere for the discussions that followed.

The first session, led by moderator Mr. Lawrence Ma, Founding President of the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, featured a panel including Mr. Charles Ho Nai Chuen, BBM (President of the Singapore Jewellers Association), Mr. Ermin Siow (Vice Chairman of AGJA and Advisor to the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Associations of Malaysia), Mr. Simon Chan (CEO of the China Gems & Jade Exchange), along with Ms. Le Yen (Vice-President of the Vietnam Gemstone Jewelry & Art Crafts Association) and Ms. Teresa Charminia Florencio (Vice Chairman of the ASEAN International Committee, Guild of Philippine Jewellers Inc). Their discussions centred on the potential for establishing a cohesive ASEAN jewellery network, leveraging Hong Kong’s expertise in design and trade alongside ASEAN’s resource wealth and burgeoning consumer markets.

In the second session, moderated by Mr. Kent Wong, Chairman of The Jewellers’ and Goldsmiths’ Association of Hong Kong, insights were shared by Mr. Alan Chan, Chief Brand Officer of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group, and Mr. Terry Li, Vice General Manager of Tencent Smart Retail. This part of the conference focused on how innovative digital solutions are transforming operational efficiency, growth, and profitability in the jewellery sector.

ASEAN, a region with over 600 million predominantly young and digitally engaged citizens, stands out as one of the most vibrant jewellery markets globally. Many sellers are recognising ASEAN as a pathway to a growing consumer demographic, while buyers see the region as an essential provider of gemstones and design expertise. Thailand remains a crucial player for coloured gemstones, with Vietnam, Myanmar, and Indonesia further enhancing ASEAN’s diverse resource base. The rising demand for gold within the region opens avenues for new design ideas that harmoniously blend tradition with contemporary tastes.

The successful conference, marked by active participation and meaningful conversations, has reinforced the role of the ASEAN Gems & Jewellery Trade Association and the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association in shaping the future of the international jewellery industry. The collaborative spirit demonstrated at this event not only celebrates a rich history but also paves the way for an interconnected future for the global jewellery community.
