The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ) has announced the appointment of Jason Allum as its new chairman, following Michael Aldridge, who held the position for nine years. Allum officially assumed his new role after the CMJ held its annual general meeting on 23 August.
Allum serves as director of Allum and Sidaway, a jewellery business established in 1942 and one of the CMJ’s founding members, which operates six retail locations in southern and southwestern England. He rejoined the CMJ Board of Directors in April 2025 after previously serving from 2013 to 2021. Upon his elevation to chairman, Allum noted the “enormous change” that has occurred within the jewellery sector in recent years and highlighted the significance of the CMJ network for independent businesses.
The CMJ stands as the largest procurement group in the jewellery and watch sector across the UK and Ireland, governed by a board elected by its members. Allum expressed gratitude to Aldridge, stating, “I would like to thank Michael Aldridge for everything he has done as chairman. Michael has given so much to this role; without doubt, he leaves the CMJ in a stronger and better position today than when he started and I would like to thank him for his incredible contribution.”
As he assumes the chairmanship, Allum committed to supporting member businesses, declaring his intent to collaborate closely with fellow directors to foster growth.
Patrick Turner, managing director of the CMJ, commented on Allum’s extensive involvement with the group. “Jason is a former CMJ board member and rejoined the board in April 2025, so he has already been closely involved in shaping the direction of the group,” he said.
Turner elaborated on ongoing initiatives, emphasizing a strategic roadmap focused on sustainability and the ongoing development of the CMJ, aiming to provide enhanced value to its retail and supplier members. He noted, “From a head office perspective, we have a strong core team in place to deliver against our growth plans and the expectations of our members and suppliers.”
Looking to the future, Turner indicated that the CMJ plans to make additional appointments aimed at enhancing its operations, particularly in the areas of marketing and communications.
