Full Story

Independent watch brands are making notable strides in the US market, as CHP Caliber announces its expansion into five jewellery retailers across New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Connecticut, including a notable outlet within the Pentagon.

Founded in 2025 by Becca Florence Davis, CHP Caliber is a consultancy that focuses on integrating independent watch labels into traditional retail settings. This latest expansion includes partnerships with Lumos Jewelers, located in the Pentagon, and Clifton Jewelers in New Jersey, signalling a crucial development for the firm as it establishes a network of independent sellers throughout the United States.

Lumos Jewelers has begun to feature watches from the Hampden Watch Company and Tsar Bomba, both known for their striking designs and dedicated followings. The inclusion of Hampden is particularly significant, as one of its classic pocket watches is housed at the Smithsonian Institution, bridging a rich history of American watchmaking with contemporary retail.

This expansion underscores a rising interest in independent watch labels among collectors. CHP Caliber reports that initial sales across its retail partners have been robust. Since its inaugural product placements in December, the company has achieved over $50,000 in wholesale revenue and moved more than 100 watches, boasting an average sell-through rate of 35%.

Another brand experiencing success is Briston, which has reached around 50% sell-through in various locations and has already secured repeat orders. Retailers note that Briston’s neo-vintage aesthetic and reasonable pricing are attracting collectors seeking alternatives to traditional luxury watches.

CHP Caliber distinguishes itself from conventional distributors by emphasising curated placements and fostering strong relationships with retailers. Davis has developed the company independently, eschewing outside investment while collaborating closely with brands and stores to create tailored displays and support marketing efforts.

Looking ahead, CHP Caliber aims to collaborate with up to 30 retailers by 2026, illustrating a broader transformation within the watch sector as independent brands transition from online platforms and expos to physical retail environments.
