Bonhams has inaugurated its new US headquarters, situated at 111 West 57th Street, New York City. This prime location, known for its cultural significance, is adjacent to the iconic Steinway Hall and one of the world’s slimmest skyscrapers.

The facility covers 42,000 square feet and features the historic Steinway Rotunda, complemented by an impressive 80-foot glass atrium, which provides insight into the workings of the auction house.

Housing a range of departments, this headquarters will host various sales categories including automobiles and fine jewellery. It also features dedicated auction rooms, client reception areas, on-site storage, and staff workspaces.

This new venue aims to redefine the cultural experience for collectors and art enthusiasts alike, with larger ambitions and a broader scope than before.

In conjunction with the opening, Bonhams has launched an engaging series of exhibitions and auctions that celebrate both the historic and modern architectural elements of their new premises. The February programme includes significant contributions from musical history and crucial works of 20th and 21st-century art and design, underscoring Bonhams’ diverse expertise and its commitment to making art accessible to New Yorkers.

Lilly Chan, the US managing director, remarked, “Opening our new US flagship marks a defining moment for Bonhams. This building enables a more experiential approach to the way we engage with collectors, audiences, and partners – bringing together exhibitions, auctions and public programming in a far more expansive and meaningful way.”

Seth Johnson, CEO of Bonhams, emphasized the dual significance of the new headquarters: “This new headquarters represents both continuity and ambition for Bonhams. By establishing our US home within Steinway Hall, we are honouring a site deeply embedded in New York’s cultural history while creating a space designed for the way collectors engage today. It is a long-term investment in the United States and a clear expression of our confidence in the strength and future of Bonhams globally.”
