Full Story

A new boutique for A. Lange & Söhne has opened in Chicago, nestled within the historic Tribune Tower at 435 Michigan Avenue on the iconic Magnificent Mile. This establishment provides a unique venue for aficionados to appreciate the craftsmanship of German watchmaking in a sophisticated atmosphere.

With this new location, A. Lange & Söhne now boasts nine points of sale across the United States, contributing to the brand’s strategy of expanding its global presence. This expansion follows the recent openings of flagship stores in major cities such as London, Singapore, and Shanghai.

The boutique spans 1,409 square feet, thoughtfully designed to encourage customers to explore the complete range of timepieces without rush. It features three seating areas and private lounges, each created for the intimate viewing of watches.

Distinctive installations throughout the space showcase significant achievements in the brand’s heritage, including the innovative Zeitwerk, the Lange tourbillon, and the meticulous hand-finishing processes that define each watch movement.

“Our collection is a testament to the deep connection between our watchmakers and our clients—an experience best understood by holding a Lange timepiece,” commented Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Söhne. He added, “Our boutiques are crafted to convey our unique narrative and the extraordinary dedication and creativity our artisans exhibit in Glashütte as they refine every detail of their creations.”

Significantly, the boutique’s setting within the Tribune Tower—an architectural landmark completing its centennial celebrations in 2025—serves as a nod to both its storied past and a piece of history; a section of the Berlin Wall was incorporated into the building in 1990, the same year Walter Lange revived the brand in Glashütte.

Charles Langlois, President of A. Lange & Söhne for the Americas, stated, “The launch of this boutique is a significant step forward in our retail strategy within the Americas. Chicago represents a premier hub for watch lovers, and we are eager to share our dedication to precision, tradition, and timeless elegance with them.”
