In a landmark event in Milan, Omega has unveiled a pavilion that invites both visitors and locals to delve into the company’s extensive history with the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This interactive space is designed to enhance the understanding of Omega’s role as the Official Timekeeper for the Games.
Distinct from some exclusive areas reserved for VIPs, the pavilion is fully accessible to the general public, allowing them to engage with Omega’s rich contributions to the precise timing of both summer and winter events.
Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of Omega, expressed enthusiasm about the pavilion’s potential impact, stating, “The Omega Pavilion is really the best way to understand our role as Official Timekeeper. We can take you inside each sport and show the technologies and processes that make every moment possible. It’s a must-see attraction in the host city and you can learn so much about the magic of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.”
The opening ceremony featured remarks from Aeschlimann alongside Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Alain Zobrist, CEO of Omega Timing. Coventry remarked on the significance of the pavilion, asserting, “It’s amazing to see the Omega Pavilion here in Milan, which gives fans a chance to explore how Omega supports the athletes and how much innovation goes on behind the scenes. Timekeeping is such a vital part of the Games and this brings it to life in a really engaging way.”
The pavilion showcases a variety of exhibits that narrate the history of timekeeping in the Olympic context, spanning nearly a century. Features include photographs, profiles of athletes, and displays of innovative technology, all designed to enhance the visitor experience.
For those seeking excitement, a virtual reality bobsleigh ride simulates a thrilling experience of racing down an ice track at speeds nearing 90 mph, with impeccable timing made possible by Omega’s technology. Additionally, attendees can engage in a freestyle skiing experience where advanced AI and camera technology create an image of them in a dynamic ski jump pose.
The pavilion will be open daily from 10am to 10pm throughout the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, starting from February 6 to 22, and re-opening from March 6 to 15. Admission is free for all.
