An exclusive Richard Mille RM 59-01 Yohan Blake Tourbillon is set to be sold without a reserve at a Government Auction conducted by Wilsons Auctions. This marks a significant moment, as it might be the first time this particular model is available to the public without a minimum bidding requirement.
The RM 59-01, introduced in 2013, was specially designed for Jamaican Olympic athlete Yohan Blake, with just 50 pieces produced globally. The watch’s aerodynamic design and vibrant colour scheme are inspired by the Jamaican flag, reflecting Blake’s athletic prowess.
Renowned for its sophisticated tourbillon movement, the RM 59-01 is hailed as one of Richard Mille’s most ambitious offerings for sports enthusiasts. Its scarcity, association with sportsmanship, and intricate engineering make it particularly appealing to collectors.
This listing also represents Wilsons Auctions’ first sale of a Richard Mille timepiece, with its presence in a Government Auction elevating it among the notable contemporary watches recently accessible on the market.
Currently, the bidding has reached £12,010, but it is expected to increase as the auction progresses.
Wilsons Auctions, established nearly 90 years ago, is a leading independent auction house in the UK and Ireland, showcasing a significant total of over £620 million from high-value luxury items and assets confiscated from criminal activities on behalf of more than 40 law enforcement bodies.
Items in this auction come exclusively from assets seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Once confiscated, these goods are auctioned, with proceeds redirected to public funds, illustrating a unique twist on the adage that crime pays.
James Guiler, the Luxury Goods Specialist at Wilsons Auctions, remarked on this sale, stating it is “an exceptional way to begin the year and a true milestone for our Luxury Department. It could be a long time before an opportunity like this comes along again for watch collectors.”
In addition to the Richard Mille, the auction features an exceptionally rare Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked in factory-set frosted white gold, presented in nearly pristine condition and highly sought after among modern Royal Oak enthusiasts.
The auction catalogue boasts an impressive variety of luxury items, including private registration plates like 5 REM, gold bullion, valuable coins, and exquisite jewellery.
The auction is currently underway and will conclude on Friday, 30 January, at 11 am. Bidding is accessible to the public exclusively online.
