EXCLUSIVE: Why Beaverbrooks is optimistic after the Budget

Combined with a positive September, it provides momentum heading into the most important weeks of our year.

We are realistic, though, and know households remain cautious about how and where they spend.

We were looking for stability from this Budget, and it went some way towards providing it. As a family business, we plan for the long term, and a steady backdrop helps us more than any single measure.

Retailers needed some breathing room and I’m particularly pleased businesses haven’t been hit with another significant increase in employment costs. Keeping those costs under control means we can continue investing in our teams and stores.

Consumers have had a great deal to absorb over the past few years, and confidence remains fragile, so anything that gives households greater certainty over their finances is welcome.

Many of Beaverbrooks customers’ purchases, whether an engagement ring or anniversary gift, are considered decisions and people are more likely to commit when they feel secure about the months ahead.

There is still more needed from the government for both businesses and consumers, but we enter the final months of 2026 positive about the prospects for the high street and wider economy.

Our teams are ready, and we want every customer who walks through our doors to have an exceptional experience.
