Full Story
In September 2025, Armen and David launched Jewelers on Court in Brooklyn, establishing a retail environment that prioritises direct engagement between the jewellers and their clientele—something increasingly uncommon in today’s retail landscape.
With a combined experience of over three decades in jewellery and watch repair, the duo has positioned their repair bench as the focal point of their shop. This transparency in operations not only enhances the customer experience but also elevates after-sales service to a core component of their offering, rather than relegating it to an unseen back office function.
The business has flourished primarily through recommendations, achieving over 300 five-star ratings on Google. Armen and David have personally contributed to around 90% of the shop’s interior construction, demonstrating their commitment to craftsmanship and detail.
As Jewelers on Court embarks on its second year, Armen reflects on the significance of hands-on service and evolving customer expectations from independent retailers.
“The bench has been part of my life since I began learning jewellery at sixteen in Armenia,” Armen explains. He continued his trade in Russia before moving to the United States in 1995. “After more than thirty years, that hands-on work remains the core of what I do.”
When creating their store, the brothers aimed to provide the Downtown Brooklyn community with direct access to expert craftsmanship. Armen elaborates, “Repairing jewellery and watches enables us to help people retain pieces that are significant to them, as well as assist in selecting new items for special moments.”
Armen expresses that a key element of their service lies in understanding the personal value customers attach to their pieces. “Our clients entrust us with items that often carry family history, and each piece deserves respect, regardless of its monetary worth,” he notes. This rings true for services such as appraisals and repairs, where the emphasis is placed on fostering trust through attentive and transparent communication.
The visibility of their work creates a more intimate relationship with customers. “They can see our faces, interact with us, and observe the care given to their jewellery,” Armen states. “This closeness allows them to express what the piece means to them and builds a rapport that enhances their comfort in returning.”
Quick turnaround services are a deliberate part of the brothers’ strategy. “We recognise that clients are often on tight schedules,” Armen shares. “By addressing repairs like battery changes and ring adjustments while they wait, we’re able to offer convenience without sacrificing the quality of care.”
Their dedicated service philosophy has led to rapid growth, sustained by the loyalty of returning customers and their recommendations. “People appreciate being genuinely looked after,” Armen affirms, adding that some have benefitted from complimentary services as part of their commitment to relationship-building.
The brothers’ repair expertise informs their approach to retailing watches as well. “Our experience in repair allows us to guide customers in selecting timepieces that fit their lifestyle and understand their care needs over time,” Armen explains, highlighting the evolving nature of their customer interactions, which may include assistance in selling or valuing precious items.
As for the physical store, Armen and David sought a welcoming atmosphere. “We put a lot of effort into creating a beautiful shop, where everyone feels at ease,” Armen notes. Their renovations are a testament to their involvement and passion for the business, aiming to create a space that residents can embrace as part of their community.
Looking ahead, Armen aspires for Jewelers on Court to become a lifelong destination for customers. “We envision clients returning not just for repairs, but for special occasions like engagement rings or custom designs,” he explains. “Our goal is to maintain close relationships while growing our business, ensuring that personal touch remains essential.”
As they approach the future, the brothers are committed to nurturing the legacy of their family business, seeking to establish it as a trusted fixture in Brooklyn for years to come.
